Speaker Bio
Susan McGee is the Chief Executive Officer of Homeward Trust Edmonton, where she leads work across system planning, housing development, and asset stewardship, including oversight of Homeward Trust Holdings Company. Since joining the organization in 2005, she has worked alongside community partners to advance coordinated responses to homelessness in Edmonton. Her work is grounded in the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to realize their potential, and that systems must be designed to support that in practical, meaningful ways. In a sector that can sometimes underestimate what people are capable of, she emphasizes approaches that create the conditions for stability and growth—meeting people where they are without limiting where they can go. Susan focuses on intentional, informed planning to ensure investments respond to community need and lead to sustainable housing outcomes within Edmonton’s evolving housing and social infrastructure. This includes a clear focus on supportive housing. While widely advanced as a solution, not all supportive housing is the same—outcomes depend on the adequacy of supports, clarity of model, and integration within a broader community approach. Under her leadership, Homeward Trust and its partners have supported more than 22,000 individuals to secure housing as part of a broader, evolving community effort. Susan holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Toronto Metropolitan University, an MBA from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University, and the ICD.D designation. She is a recipient of the Alberta Centennial Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Medals.
